Who it suits
The Greenline 40 — a 12-metre boat with two cabins and six berths, offered with all-electric, hybrid diesel-electric or conventional diesel power on the same hull — is aimed at the buyer who wants a genuine weekender rather than a day boat, and Greenline has more experience of hybrid drivetrains at this size than almost anyone. The all-electric configuration suits protected, well-served water: the Dutch and German inland networks, the Italian lakes, or a home berth with reliable shore power and short marina-to-marina hops.
The range figure is the decision
Eighty kilowatt hours is a modest pack for a boat of this displacement, and the honest consequence is the published 30 nm range, extending to roughly 75 nm at 5 knots with the optional 4 kW range extender. That same battery must also carry hotel loads overnight — refrigeration, lighting, any air conditioning — so cruising range and living aboard compete for the same energy. Ask for consumption at anchor before assuming a weekend off-grid.
Anyone planning Adriatic island-hopping or longer passages should look hard at the hybrid version, which exists for exactly this reason and offers electric-only cruising up to 20 nm with twin 220 hp diesels behind it. At €445,000 this all-electric 40 is a considered choice rather than a cheap one, but the shared hull means that choice can be made on how you genuinely cruise.
