RESOLVED (previously flagged as a conflict): twin 80hp Torqeedo Deep Blue motors and TWO 40kWh battery packs (80kWh combined) is now the primary spec, supported by 2 of 3 sources (2018 boats.com/YachtWorld launch review; 2025 EV Magazine feature). A single MBY (2023) source instead reported 2x50kW motors and a single 40kWh pack — kept here only as a minority-source footnote, not the primary figure. You are buying a Hinckley, not a range figure
Half a million euros for an 8.53 m boat with a 40 nm range is, judged purely on numbers, poor value — and that framing misses the point. The Dasher is an artisanal Maine-built object, drawn by Michael Peters, designed from the outset for electric drive rather than converted, and finished to a standard almost nothing else in this segment attempts. Buyers in Newport, Nantucket or the Solent who want a beautiful short-hop boat and value provenance are the audience. Anyone calculating cost per nautical mile is not.
The practical reading, and one real caveat
Two 80 hp Torqeedo Deep Blue motors against 80 kWh means the 40 nm is a cruise figure; at the 23.5-knot top speed the pack would be gone inside the hour. Treat it as a harbour and short-passage boat with shallow-draft jet drives — which is exactly how Hinckley's Picnic Boat owners use theirs.
The caveat worth pressing is age. This is a 2017 design using BMW i3-derived cells, now a superseded chemistry generation. Battery health, servicing and eventual replacement cost on a bespoke nine-year-old pack are questions to put to the yard before buying used. Note too that the 80 kWh figure is corroborated by two of three sources we checked, not all three. A Candela C-8 at €330,000 offers far more usable range; it offers nothing like this boat's craftsmanship.
